Nigerian popstar Asake, who is arguably the hottest breakout star from Nigeria this year, has dropped his debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe—a 12-track offering featuring the hit singles “Peace Be Unto You”, “Terminator”, and the “Sungba” remix with Burna Boy.
The singer-songwriter has been on an unprecedented run in 2022: outside of the previously mentioned tracks, Asake also released hit songs such as “Omo Ope” with Olamide—who he credits as having a pivotal role in his success—and “Palazzo” with DJ Spinall, which had listeners from all around the world reciting heavy Yoruba lyrics bar for bar. After treating fans to his Ololade Asake project in February, the 27-year-old talent comes through with his full-length debut—and it does not disappoint.
On Mr. Money With The Vibe, elements of traditional Nigerian fuji music are infused with elements of Afropop and South African Amapiano—entrancing basslines, captivating strings, choral melodies—to produce an almost spiritual sonic landscape that’s set the ‘Afro-fusion’ artist apart from his contemporaries.
