Deconstructing the Look: How a Givenchy Top Became a Masterclass in Cinematic Dressing.

Jenna Ortega just served another masterclass on the red carpet, but forget the expected goth-chic, she’s levelled up. After months of slaying the Wednesday S2 press tour, she pivoted hard at the 2025 Emmys, channelling a darker, glossier fantasy that felt ripped from a different goth era entirely.

Ditching the head-to-toe black we’ve come to expect, Ortega arrived in a show-stopper from Sarah Burton’s debut Givenchy collection: a crystal-and-pearl-encrusted top that screamed luxury goth. It wasn’t technically a naked dress but oh, it was playing in that league. This thing was a masterpiece, like a shattered chandelier magically woven together, dripping with shimmering gems and oversized pearls that artfully covered just enough. Teamed with a slinky black low-waisted skirt (complete with a deadly slit) and sky-high Louboutins, the look was pure gothic elegance, Morticia Addams would absolutely nod in approval. And of course, her dark, razor-sharp hair and makeup sealed the deal, keeping that signature Ortega edge firmly intact.

If this feels familiar, you’re not wrong. The naked dress trend that owned 2024 is clearly not going down without a fight. From Margot Robbie blinding paparazzi in sheer Armani Privé to Dakota Johnson smouldering in black lace Gucci, the A-list is keeping sheer seduction alive—and Ortega just threw gasoline on the fire.

But here’s what really sets this look apart (besides the sheer audacity of it all): it’s a full-blown, cinematic callback. That gorgeously chaotic Givenchy top is a direct nod to Isabella Rossellini’s iconic moment in the 1992 cult classic Death Becomes Her where her character, Lisle Von Rhuman, wears nothing but strategically placed necklaces. Ortega isn’t just referencing the look; she’s channeling it.
